Educators understand and use data to drive their instruction and support students in achieving their learning goals. Educators:

7a)  Provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and reflect on their learning using technology.

Many times throughout the year as we are halfway through completing different chapters and units, I have my students review using either Kahoot, Quizizz, or IXL.  Each of these tools allows for students to quickly and easily see their results, as well as provide data for me to analyze and reflect on different ways I am still able to make sure they are reaching their goal before the summative assessment date.  These are perfect ways for students to be able to see exactly where they stand as they are preparing for the summative assessment as well.  Going through a Kahoot or Quizizz as a class allows for discussion to take place if a student or students better realize there is a step/spot within their work they are missing.  IXL provides the steps and directions for each problem for students to read after they miss each problem.

7b)  Use technology to design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessments that accommodate learner needs, provide timely feedback to students and inform instruction.

As mentioned under the Leader standard, my district was able to purchase IXL licenses for all of our students.  I use IXL frequently in my classes, but tailor it to fit each class and each student.  I have used it as entrance and exit tickets, homework, review games, and even for formative assessments.  IXL is a program that gives students points for answering questions correctly.  The first question gives you 10 points, then 9, 8, and so on.  After the first 10 questions, the program uses an algorithm to award points.  If you get a question wrong, the program takes points away and makes the students read the correct steps/work on how to do the problem.  Through the program, I am able to see students' scores and questions as they are working and the students receive instant feedback.

I have also designed and implemented many formative and summative assessments through Google Forms/Surveys and created a few quizzes and discussion questions online via Canvas and CourseSites from my ISLT 7372 and 7374 classes.

7c)  Use assessment data to guide progress and communicate with students, parents and education stakeholders to build student self-direction.

After analyzing all of the data collected from the above mentioned technological resources, I am able to give my students instant feedback either through the program itself or through Google Classroom.  I am able to email students and parents directly through Classroom and do so frequently to remind them of an upcoming assessment, or to let them know the outcome of the past assessment.  These messages and reminders allow students, parents, and even other teachers (study hall supervisors), to have an idea of where we are headed in the class and ultimately allows the students to determine for themselves if they need to be coming in to our math lab (special math study hall) for any extra help.
